"Skype: Oh the Places We Won't Be Going"

This article discusses the networking of authors, publishers, and related companies in order to establish an affordable technologically savvy way to interest people in literature.  The article relates to NETS in all five of the NETS guidelines.  From facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity through innovative thinking and inventiveness, designing and publishing digital age learning experiences and assessments by putting in charge the students through every step of the process allowing them to engage in professional growth and leadership. This article covers in only a few pages every area NETS has with the simplest idea:  Skype.
A question that arises to me is what occurs when funding cannot be provided to acquire the technology required for every student to be able to participate?  What if the school server cannot handle video data streaming?  Restrictions upon specific sites?  Also if successful will this mean less outdoor activities and field trips and more indoor, sitting on our backsides exasperating our ever-growing obesity epidemic in this country?v I enjoyed the article and am curious on the future changes to our education system through technological advances.

  1. This article was very interesting in how it related to all five of the NETS guidelines. However, I was a bit confused in that the article was trying to gain peoples interest in literature, but how it is related to Skype. I do agree that through technological advances, students are now engaging more in their professional leadership and growth because of the ability to be able to communicate more effectively. Skype has now become very popular since it is a way for communication between distances. If technology continues to take over our educational life, than I wonder as well if students' outdoor participation will decrease not allowing them to be active which in turn can lead to a higher percentage of obesity in the country.
